Does each package in a multi-package consignment get its own tracking number?

Each package in a consignment receives a unique carrier barcode and tracking number at collection, including when multiple packages travel together as one consignment to the same receiver. Four boxes sent as one consignment generate four tracking numbers. All four link to the same consignment reference in the carrier system, but each box is scanned and recorded individually at every checkpoint from collection to delivery.
