Is a freight charge the same as a freight rate?

No. The freight rate is the base transport price per unit — per kilogram, per pallet space, per loading metre, or per full vehicle depending on the service type. The freight charge is the total invoiced amount: the freight rate applied to the consignment's pricing weight, plus the diesel surcharge, plus toll charges for the route, plus any accessorial fees for the specific collection and delivery requirements. A quote that shows €2.50 per kg states the freight rate. The total at the bottom of the confirmed quote is the freight charge.
