What is the BDF system in European logistics?

BDF stands for Bundesverband des Deutschen Güterfernverkehrs — the German long-distance road freight association whose standardisation work defined the chassis coupling pin positions, guide rail spacing, and locking mechanism that became the European swap body system standard. BDF is the shorthand used across German-speaking logistics markets for the entire swap body ecosystem. Outside Germany the same equipment is known as caisse mobile in French, cassa mobile in Italian, and wisselbak in Dutch.
