What is the difference between a step-frame low loader and a semi-low loader?

A step-frame low loader has a deck height of 700–950 mm from the road surface — produced by two drops in the trailer frame behind the gooseneck and in front of the rear axle bogie. This gives maximum height clearance for tall plant such as excavators and cranes. A semi-low loader sits at 1,000–1,200 mm — between a standard flatbed and a full step-frame — suited to heavy plant that is not especially tall but exceeds standard flatbed capacity. The semi-low loader offers a shallower loading ramp angle and simpler route clearance planning than a deep step-frame.
