What happens if the UN number is wrong or missing on an ADR transport document?

A transport document with an absent or incorrect UN number is non-compliant under ADR Annex A. Enforcement authorities — transport inspectors, police, and border agencies — can stop and detain the vehicle, require repackaging or off-loading before the journey resumes, and issue penalties to both the consignor and the carrier. The consignor bears legal responsibility for the accuracy of the dangerous goods description at the point of booking — an error in the UN number cannot be corrected by the carrier.
