Does the freight charge include customs duties for cross-border EU shipments?

For intra-EU road freight between EU member states, no customs duties apply — goods move freely under single market rules and the freight charge is the only transport-related invoice. For EU-to-non-EU movements, customs duties are assessed by the destination country's customs authority and issued on a separate customs document that is entirely separate from the carrier's freight invoice. Neither scenario includes customs duties within the freight charge itself.
