What is a goods receipt in an ERP system?

A goods receipt in an ERP system is the transaction posted when goods are accepted into stock — it updates the inventory count and records the receipt against the purchase order. The goods receipt slip is the printed or digital document generated as the output of that transaction. In SAP's Materials Management module, the goods receipt slip is the standard printable form produced when a goods receipt is posted against an inbound delivery.
