What is the difference between deadweight and weight?

Weight is the general term. Dead weight specifies the complete measured shipment weight, as distinct from net weight, tare weight, or a calculated volumetric figure. The distinction matters at quoting stage because the rate applies to chargeable weight, which is whichever of dead weight and volumetric weight comes out higher.
