Logistics Operations
Browse Go Trans logistics operations terms — route planning, load securing, production logistics, charging points, and delivery scheduling in the European context.
Logistics operations covers the processes, activities, and execution systems that govern the physical movement of goods from collection point to delivery address. In European road freight, logistics operations are shaped by three regulatory frameworks: EN 12195 (cargo securing on road vehicles), EU Directive 96/53/EC (vehicle dimensions and weight), and the CMR Convention (1956), which governs the documents — waybill, proof of delivery, and delivery date — that record each operational step.
What are logistics operations?
Logistics operations are the execution-layer processes that physically move goods from collection to delivery — route planning, load securing, delivery scheduling, charging infrastructure, and production logistics are the primary operational activities in European road freight.
Logistics concepts describe the organisational models — freight forwarders, logistics brokers, 3PLs. Logistics operations describe the physical execution of each consignment: route planning, load securing, delivery scheduling, and proof of delivery recording. Every Go Trans consignment generates a logistics operations sequence — carrier confirmed, collection point routed, vehicle loaded and cargo secured, linehaul to destination region, last mile delivery executed, proof of delivery signed and returned. The Go Trans logistics glossary covers all 8 clusters of logistics and freight terminology used in Belgian and European road freight operations.
What logistics operations term pages are covered in this cluster?
The following pages cover each logistics operations term in detail — with European regulatory context, EN 12195 and CMR Convention connections, and Go Trans operational applications.
Route Planning — the optimisation of stop sequence, vehicle loading order, and vehicle routing to minimise distance, fuel consumption, and dwell time per delivery stop. In last mile operations, route planning determines the sequence in which 80–120 daily stops are served from a regional depot.
Charging Point — an electric vehicle charging installation — AC slow charging or DC fast charging — used by logistics operators for fleet electrification. The OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) governs interoperability between charging stations and fleet management systems across European logistics networks.
Production Logistics — the logistics operations internal to a manufacturing facility — the movement of raw materials, components, and work-in-progress between production stages before finished goods enter the external supply chain and become available for carrier collection.
Upcoming terms publishing soon:
Load Securing — the methods used to prevent cargo movement during road transit: lashing, blocking, friction, and bracing, all governed by the EN 12195 European standard and rated in decanewtons (daN)
Delivery Date — the confirmed date on which the carrier commits to completing delivery at the destination address, tracked against the actual delivery timestamp in the proof of delivery
Tension Strap — a webbing strap and ratchet lashing mechanism rated in decanewtons (daN) under EN 12195, used to secure cargo to trailer floor rings or sidewall anchor points
Broadcast Logistics — coordinated simultaneous distribution of time-sensitive goods — media, publishing materials, promotional product launches — to multiple destinations within a defined delivery window
Shop Delivery — delivery of goods directly to a retail store requiring specific vehicle access, time window compliance, and product-level delivery documentation for each individual store location
Flat Concrete Slab — the reinforced concrete floor surface of a warehouse or distribution centre loading bay, relevant to forklift access safety, pallet stability, and load securing compliance under EN 12195
How does Go Trans apply these logistics operations terms?
Go Trans applies logistics operations terms at every stage of arranging road freight across Europe — from the carrier selection and route confirmation at booking through to the proof of delivery that closes each consignment.
At booking, Go Trans confirms collection and delivery postcodes — the carrier uses route planning systems to optimise stop sequence, vehicle loading, and delivery time window compliance for the specific Belgium-to-Europe lane. The cargo type and dimensions confirmed at booking determine which load securing method the carrier applies under EN 12195 — palletised goods on a tautliner floor use lashing straps and friction mats; steel coils on an Edscha body use coil wells and heavy-duty lashing chains. At delivery, Go Trans monitors proof of delivery confirmation — the operational milestone that closes each consignment in the tracking system.
The CMR waybill, proof of delivery, and sender/receiver designations are all freight terms — the documentary and party vocabulary that records each logistics operation from booking through to delivery completion. The load securing method and route planning constraints for any consignment depend on the vehicle types assigned — tautliners carry standard palletised cargo with lashing straps, low loaders carry heavy plant with heavy-duty chains, and Edscha bodies carry crane-loaded industrial freight with coil wells. Go Trans arranges parcel delivery across Europe through DHL, DPD, UPS, and FedEx — the service where route planning, delivery scheduling, and proof of delivery tracking are most operationally intensive per consignment.
